March 7, 2019

Today, Mayor Tim Keller presented Gloria Witherspoon a driver from ABQ Ride with the One Albuquerque Award for her dedication to providing excellent customer service and a warm smile while behind the wheel. Gloria has received multiple letters describing the detailed care she takes when driving residents around the city.

In presenting the award, Mayor Keller said, “The One Albuquerque vision is about building a safe, inclusive city for everyone. Gloria lives that spirit every day and that’s why we’re glad to recognize her today.”

The One Albuquerque Award is given to members of the community or City employees to celebrate their extraordinary efforts in making Albuquerque a safer and more inclusive place to live. The award aims to highlight the positive impact individuals can have on communities and call on others to think about ways they can help their neighbors and the city as a whole.

“All of us drivers have a challenging job with lots of responsibilities and accountability. Every day is a challenge and we never know what we may have to face out there,” said Gloria Witherspoon. “It is awesome to know that we are being recognized for our work. I would like to thank the Mayor and the drivers I work with.”

Gloria received the award after being nominated by one of her regular passengers, who sent a letter to Mayor Keller saying: “It has been my distinct pleasure these past few months to ride ABQ-Ride buses driven by Mrs. Witherspoon along Wyoming Blvd., on Route 31…Mrs. Witherspoon is a gentle soul with a kind, caring demeanor who cares deeply about the traveling public and is committed to the mission of public transportation.”

Anyone is welcome to nominate a member of the community or City employee for a One Albuquerque Award. Nominations can be submitted at cabq.gov/OneABQAward.
