Vexus meets commitment to bring fiber-to-the-home internet with plans to provide service to all homes and businesses.

After breaking ground in March of this year, Vexus Fiber has launched service to Phase 1 of its high-speed fiber broadband network in Albuquerque.

The first neighborhoods to get Vexus’ high-speed, fiber-to-the-home internet service will be just north of I-40 and West of I-25, covering over 1,000 homes and businesses. This is the beginning of superfast broadband coming to the entire city.

“Supporting a competitive marketplace is going to help us meet Albuquerque’s broadband needs,” said Catherine Nicolaou, Broadband Program Manager. “Increased internet availability increases our ability to have meaningful connections with so many important things - health, work, learning, business, entertainment, other communities and people.”

According to educationsuperhighway.org, there are tens of thousands of unconnected households in Albuquerque. As the needs of established businesses and those coming into Albuquerque shift to more advanced uses of broadband, their speed needs are likely increasing.

“Bringing reliable high-speed fiber internet to our city will help bridge the digital divide for Albuquerque families so they have the tools they need to learn and work,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This is also a powerful tool for businesses that will help with ongoing economic development to create new opportunities in our community.”

As part of its agreement with the City, Vexus Fiber will build out to serve all of Albuquerque and anticipates completion by 2028. Other parts of the city are already under construction for high-speed fiber-optic broadband. Vexus plans to make the service accessible to 3,000 homes and businesses by the end of the year.

Vexus is investing $250 million in the Albuquerque project and creating more than 200 jobs during the construction phase and 150 permanent jobs after the build-out is complete.

"This is just the start of what we’re building in Albuquerque,” said Jim Gleason, CEO of Vexus Fiber. “We’re well on our way to making the state’s fastest internet, and some of the fastest in the country, available to all of Albuquerque.”

Vexus Fiber operates on a 10 Gig fiber-optic network that allows multi-gigabit internet service and symmetrical speeds, residents and businesses will enjoy high-speed fiber-optic internet that supports multiple users and devices simultaneously. Unlike traditional cable connections, Vexus’ fiber network provides greater reliability, ensuring that you stay connected even during peak usage periods. For example, with 1 Gig download / 1 Gig upload fiber speeds, you can stream in 4K without interruption with multiple devices connected to your network at the same time.

Residents and businesses in Phase 1 may now sign up for services by visiting Vexus Fiber's website. Residential internet prices start at $39.99 per month and speeds are currently available up to 1 Gig / 1 Gig. Businesses may contact Vexus for customizable solutions to fit their needs.

As construction continues throughout the city, residents, and businesses that are interested in Vexus Fiber services may visit Vexus Fiber's connect page to receive updates on construction and pre-register for services. Residents in construction areas will receive advanced notice via mail, and additional messaging, such as yard signs and door tags, to notify residents of when construction is beginning in their neighborhood. Vexus crews are marked by ID tags and branded vehicles. Those interested in joining the Vexus Fiber team can visit Vexus Fiber's careers page.
