Senior Affairs Volunteers Support First Responders During 9/11 Tribute

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers support local first responders as Albuquerque marks the 25th anniversary of September 11

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers with the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs supported local first responders as the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County came together for the 9/11 Stair Climb and Memorial, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

As part of the day’s tribute, Albuquerque and Bernalillo County firefighters completed a 110-story stair climb honoring the firefighters who answered the call on September 11, 2001, before joining fellow first responders and community members for the memorial ceremony at Civic Plaza.

The Department of Senior Affairs Volunteerism staff and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers provided water, fruit and snacks for firefighters, police officers, cadets and other first responders participating throughout the day.

The effort offered another opportunity for our amazing volunteers to put service into action while supporting the first responders who serve the Albuquerque community each day.

Its AmeriCorps Seniors programs include the Senior Companion Program (SCP), Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) and Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), connecting adults 55 and older with opportunities to serve and strengthen the community.
