Marie Morra Named One Albuquerque Volunteer of the Month

Marie Morra has been named the September One Albuquerque Volunteer of the Month for her work helping Albuquerque seniors visit loved ones at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

For the past several years, Morra has helped coordinate trips to the cemetery for groups from Albuquerque senior centers, traveling with them to Santa Fe on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. For some seniors, it is a visit they haven't been able to make in years; for others, their first visit.

The trips involve much more than getting to Santa Fe. Morra brings together Rail Runner colleagues, community partners and public services, with community donations helping provide lunch, gift bags and other items for the seniors. This year, a bugler joined the group at the cemetery to play taps.

The trips have continued to grow, drawing their largest number of signups to date in 2026.

Mayor Tim Keller and the One Albuquerque Award Committee recognized Morra for her compassion and leadership during a ceremony at the Alvarado Transportation Center in Downtown Albuquerque, a major transit hub that includes the Downtown Albuquerque Rail Runner station.

The transportation center stands on the former site of the historic Alvarado Hotel, a landmark in Albuquerque’s railroad history—a fitting location to recognize someone whose work continues to help seniors make the journey to Santa Fe.
