Falls Risk Screening Event Draws a Crowd at North Domingo Baca

Older adults received one-on-one screenings and resources focused on reducing falls and supporting health and independence

September 18, 2026

North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center was busy this morning as older adults turned out for the free Falls Risk Screening event, meeting one-on-one with health professionals.

Participants received assessments covering strength and balance, vision, hearing, foot health, medications, home safety and other factors that can contribute to falls. Each received a personalized falls risk report along with information to help them better understand and reduce their risk of falling.

Health sciences students and faculty from UNM, Pima Medical Institute, and Central New Mexico Community College participated alongside health professionals and other community partners.

The event was brought together by the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs Sports and Fitness Program, New Mexico Adult Falls Prevention Coalition, UNM Health Sciences Center, OASIS Albuquerque and the New Mexico Department of Health.

For those who weren’t able to attend, or who want to learn more about reducing their risk of a fall, falls prevention information and resources are available through the National Council on Aging at NCOA.org/FallsPrevention.
