APD looking for murder suspect who cut off ankle monitor

ALBUQUERQUE – The Albuquerque Police Department is looking for murder suspect, 19-year-old Yonnis Abreu, who cut off his ankle monitor over the weekend.

Abreu is charged with the March 2021 murder of Dylan Spiess, 29, at an East Central motel. He was arrested in July 2021, and had been in jail pending trial. However, he was released from jail in June 2022 after a judge agreed to reconsider his detention. He was released on several conditions, including a GPS ankle monitor and a strict curfew.

APD was notified Sunday that Abreu cut off his ankle monitor. Detectives have been unsuccessful in multiple attempts to locate him. A few months ago his defense council requested a reconsideration of conditions of release upon which he was let out on a GPS monitor.

If you have any information about his whereabouts please contact APD immediately at 505-242-COPS. Please do not approach this individual.
