APD investigative updates

ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives are investigating two cases as homicides based on new developments.

 

Infant Death: 2/13/2022

On February 13, 2022,  Trinity Garcia was a 5 months old infant when she was brought into the University of New Mexico Hospital for a medical issue.  At that time it was unknown what caused the medical issue. The Crimes Against Children unit took primary responsibility for the case investigation. Trinity Garcia passed away on March 16, 2022. The primary detective has continued the investigation into the death. At this time the death of Trinity is being investigated as suspicious in nature. Warrants have been issued for evidence in this case and interviews continue to be conducted. The detective is working hand and hand with the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office for review and possible prosecution of persons of interest in this case.

 

Shooting: 619 Shire St SW 7/3/2022

Officers in APD’s Southwest Area Command responded to reports of a shooting on July 3, 2022, at about 6:30 p.m. When they arrived in the area of Eucariz and 114th St., S.W., officers learned that a physical altercation occurred between two non-household family members, resulting in a shooting. Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit responded and interviewed the shooting victim, who provided a statement about the incident. He further stated that he did not want to press charges on his family member for the shooting. The shooter was also injured in the altercation that required him to be transported and medically evaluated. This subject provided a statement to GVRU detectives. However, due to the victim refusing to press charges, he was released pending further investigation and received medical treatment.

 

On July 6, detectives learned the shooting victim, identified as Jaron Monte (8/30/1987), succumbed to his injuries. This is an active investigation.
