APD Homicide detectives charge man for January murder on East Central

ALBUQUERQUE – APD homicide detectives charged Martin Osoria for the Jan. 1, 2023, murder of Felipe Vigil outside a Central Ave. hot spot for criminal activity.

Osoria, 33, is accused of being involved in a physical altercation with Vigil shortly after 1 a.m. during the overnight hours of New Year’s Eve at the Adam Market, located at 7817 Central Ave., N.E. Vigil was punched by several people before he got up and ran from the parking lot of the market.

According to surveillance video and witnesses, Osoria grabbed a handgun and chased after Vigil, saying he was going to kill him. APD’s ShotSpotter system detected gunshots 15 seconds after surveillance shows Osoria running after Vigil. An autopsy revealed Vigil was shot four times, and two of the wounds were at an angle that is consistent with someone who is laying on the ground and still being fired at.

Homicide detectives learned Osoria was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, as part of an investigation by APD Narcotics and Drug Enforcement Administration officers. A search warrant was executed at 245 Charleston St., which turned up phones, firearms, a DVR for surveillance system and narcotics. Homicide detectives also drafted a search warrant for the location and located the mask that Osoria was wearing the night of the homicide.

Osoria was arrested Wednesday on federal charges as part of the narcotics investigation. Homicide detectives obtained a state warrant today that charges Osoria with an open count of murder.
