ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives charged Donovan Bookout for the overnight murder of 38-year-old Daniel Mora, a hotel security guard at the Ambassador Inn.

Bookout, 43, is also accused of carjacking a passerby in front of the motel, crashing into multiple APD vehicles, and engaging in an exchange of gunfire with officers. Nobody was injured when Bookout and officers fired at each other on a side street north of Candelaria Rd. N.E., just west of the Ambassador Inn. Bookout dropped his gun and surrendered.

Bookout declined to talk to detectives, and he was booked into the Metro Detention Center today on a felony warrant. Detectives filed an arrest warrant this evening for the crimes he allegedly committed early this morning, including:

  • Murder (open count)
  • Aggravated Assault on PO (4 Counts)
