ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives arrested Roman Cerna for a 2020 murder outside a smoke shop in Southeast Albuquerque.

Cerna, 27, was identified as a potential suspect through Crime Stoppers tips several months after the fatal shooting of Chance Elkshoulder in the parking lot of the Dank Smoke Shop, located at 901 San Pedro Dr. S.E. Elkshoulder, who was 23 at the time, died at the scene on July 12, 2020.

Homicide detectives developed new information in recent months that verified Cerna as the suspect shown in video surveillance from the smoke shop on the night of the murder. His ex-girlfriend identified him and messages he sent to friends and family showed Cerna obtained money from his mother and hastily left town after the murder.

APD detectives tracked down Cerna and arrested him on Friday, June 9, 2023. He was booked into the Metro Detention Center on a charge of murder.
