APD and BCSO Partner to Recover Carjacked Vehicle and Apprehend Offender

Officers from APD partnered with deputies from BCSO to recover a carjacked vehicle, and arrested the offender accused of stealing it.

ALBUQUERQUE – Officers from APD partnered with deputies from BCSO to recover a carjacked vehicle, and arrested the offender accused of stealing it. 

On Feb. 8, 2023 around 10:30 p.m., APD officers from the Southwest Area Command responded to a carjacking that occurred in the parking lot of 201 Unser Boulevard N.W. The victim stated a male wearing a red jacket and black hoodie had pointed a gun at her, demanding to turn over the keys to her vehicle. 

The victim said that as she was walking to the front door of her apartment complex, two males approached her and one pulled out a firearm, pushing it against her stomach while he demanded the keys.  She stated she gave them her keys and fled the area.

Officers learned the car was a 2022 model year Chevrolet and worked with the owner of the vehicle to notify OnStar of the theft and spoke with their agents to track the vehicle in live time. Officers in three APD area commands attempted to attempt to locate the vehicle.

OnStar advised the vehicle was stationary just after midnight at 4102 Sheldon Street S.E. which is in BCSO’s jurisdiction. Officers made their way to the area and notified BCSO deputies, who immediately responded to assist in the recovery of the car. OnStar was able to disable the vehicle remotely as officers and deputies moved in to conduct a high-risk stop on the vehicle. 

As they located the vehicle, four occupants attempted to flee on foot. With the assistance of BCSO deputies, they occupants were quickly apprehended without issues. Officers positively identified the suspect who committed the robbery as Daniel Flores,18.


Flores was booked on several felonies, to include:

- Armed Robbery (DW)
- Aggravated Assault (DW)
- Unlawful Taking of a MV
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Two Felony Conditions of Release Violation Warrants (Both for Aggravated Battery on Household Member Charges) 

Officers and Deputies were able to return the vehicle and property to the owner and her family. APD’s Task Force Officers were notified of the arrest and are looking to possibly prosecute Flores federally as he has a long and violent criminal history as a juvenile.
