If you grow more than you can use, the ABQ Backyard Harvest Share makes it easy to share your surplus harvest with neighbors across the city.

About the program

The ABQ Backyard Harvest Share is a City of Albuquerque program that connects local home growers with residents in need through free produce donations at City events and Health Fairs. Donations are collected by the Department of Health, Housing & Homelessness and distributed through our food pantry network at City Health and Social Services Centers, which serve hundreds of Albuquerque individuals and families every month.

What you can donate

We welcome any whole, homegrown produce, including:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Herbs and dried chiles
  • Dried beans and legumes
  • Garlic, onions, and potatoes
  • Fresh flower bouquets from your garden

All donations must be homegrown, whole, and unprocessed. We cannot accept store-bought produce, jams, preserves, or any prepared foods.

How it works

  1. Find an upcoming donation opportunity — we will gladly receive produce donations at our Health and Social Services Centers during operating hours, as well as at City Health and Social Services Fairs and community events throughout the year. 
  2. Bring what you grow — no sign-up required for produce donors. Just show up with whatever you have.
  3. We do the rest — HHH staff will collect your donation and distribute it through our food pantry network to families and individuals across Albuquerque.
