Lottery for City Youth Programs Opening Soon
ALBUQUERQUE – Families across the metro can take advantage of all-day summer programming for youth ages 5–15 at 19 community centers throughout Albuquerque. Due to high demand, community centers use a lottery-style registration process to make sign-ups more accessible and equitable for working families.
“This program has been life changing. If it wasn’t for these programs than my kids would sit at home all day while me and my husband are at work.” Said Crystal Perez, parent of youth participants at Thomas Bell Community Center. “My kids enjoy being active playing sports and interacting with other kids. We enjoy the community part of it coming together doing family nights. As for summer, they love all of the festivities and it brings value”.
“My son attending the community center means a lot to me and gives me the ability to work. We really enjoy it and are thankful for the service. It has brought us closer together.” Said Ana Munoz, mother of a participant at Thomas Bell Community Center. “I am excited for the summer program and have the registration marked on my calendar. This has been the only place my son has attended that makes him happy. The staff are very nice and super helpful and that’s all a single mom could ever want.”
Community Recreation Summer Programs provide kids with activities onsite as well as field trips, department collaborations, basketball leagues, talent shows, and free breakfast and lunch. Most activities are included in the registration process and require no extra fees.
