Yesterday, the City of Albuquerque announced the dedication of Snow Park Community Center pavilion and bridge in honor of Andres “Dre” Arellanes, a beloved son of New Mexico whose legacy continues to inspire across communities.

Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico and raised in Albuquerque, Andres Arellanes lived a life defined by heart, courage, and conviction. A gifted athlete and passionate advocate, Dre’s journey began with a joyful childhood surrounded by family, sports, and community. He quickly distinguished himself as a national five-sport competitor, serving as quarterback of his YAFL team and leading them to a national championship in 1998. At Sandia High School, he lettered in multiple sports and exemplified dedication and leadership. Beyond athletics, Dre made his mark in the business and civic world. He co-founded a national medical business with his brother and became a fearless voice for civil rights and social justice.

A man of many passions, Dre found peace and creativity in painting New Mexico’s natural landscapes, fishing its rivers, and caring deeply for animals.

“Andres was a passionate young man who believed in advocacy and social justice,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This pavilion is a symbol of his strength and compassion and the lasting impact he made on our community.”

To honor his legacy, the City is dedicating this pavilion and bridge as a permanent tribute to him in the spirit of resilience, service, and love that he embodied throughout his life.
