City Brings Back Onsite Before and After School Program.

Play+, formerly Playground Recreation, to begin registration on July 25.

July 21, 2022 – Today, the City of Albuquerque’s department of Family and Community Services (FCS) announced the official launch of PLAY +, the before and after school program offered conveniently on site at certain elementary schools at an affordable rate for working families in Albuquerque. The program has been offered by the City for decades, but has recently been renamed from Playground Recreation to PLAY +. Registration for the upcoming school year begins July 25.

“For kids, PLAY + is active learning as well as homework help and social-emotional learning through the connections made with supervisors as well as other kids. For parents, PLAY + is super convenient in times when they are looking for a little extra support that won’t break the bank,”  Kaseem Baker, Manager of PLAY + programs said. “The City offers quality, affordable before and after school education and care, and as the school year nears, this program should be top-of-mind as parents consider care options for their kids.”

PLAY + requires a $10 registration fee, and weekly costs range between $15 for one registered child and $25 for three or more children. Registration for each PLAY + site is limited and registration will close when capacity is met.

“Whether it is teen nights, senior meal sites, community center summer youth programs, or PLAY +, your City Department of Family and Community Services has something for you and your family to take part in,” Carol Pierce, Department Director, said. “We are working everyday on behalf of the people of Albuquerque, and we are making a concerted effort to ensure that they are aware of the variety of low-cost programs that are available to them.”

Parents can learn more about PLAY +, locations available, and get enrolled by visiting our website. Ongoing program registration payments can be online.
