Discover Native Flora and Fauna at Cottonwood Gallery

Bosque walking trail at ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden is again open to guests.

August 29, 2025

Immerse yourself in the diverse ecosystem of the bosque and admire accompanying wildlife at the recently reopened Cottonwood Gallery.

Cottonwood Gallery is located at the north end of the Botanic Garden and is accessed through Heritage Farm. This area showcases a section of restored bosque habitat with a canopy of mature cottonwoods and an understory of native trees and bushes.

The bosque is a cottonwood forest fed and nourished by the Rio Grande. The looped pathway provides the perfect place to enjoy the quiet comforts of the bosque and ample opportunities to observe a variety of wildlife. Depending on the season, you may see porcupines, squirrels, a whole host of charming native birds and insects, and more!

While the intent of this space is to showcase the natural wonder of the bosque, you may see a few plants with tags on them. This is because Cottonwood Gallery is home to a long-term study led by BioPark volunteers called Nature’s Notebook. This project monitors climate impact over time by tracking seasonal changes of plant life in the area.

We are excited to welcome you back to connect with nature while you walk the quiet, rejuvenated paths of Cottonwood Gallery. We hope it also inspires you to help protect the diverse, but dwindling, landscape of the bosque and the animals who call it home.
