ABQ BioPark Zoo hosts Chevron Community Day
Celebrate reptile conservation and save some green on your zoo day visit
The ABQ BioPark Zoo and Chevron invite the community to celebrate reptiles and their conservancy at Chevron Community Day on Saturday, March 28, from 9 am to 5 pm at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Event activities will be held in and around the Reptile Building.
Chevron is generously sponsoring half-price zoo tickets for New Mexico residents while supplies last. Grab discounted tickets online in advance before they're gone.
This family-friendly event combines education, creativity, and hands-on discovery. Guests will enjoy special surprises and interactive experiences focused on the fascinating world of reptiles and the importance of protecting them.
“Reptiles are often overlooked, especially when it comes to conservation," said Megan McCormick, New Mexico BioPark Society development director. "Chevron's support helps us get the message out and make a bigger impact for these animals' survival.”
During Chevron Community Day, the BioPark and Chevron will unveil exciting new additions inside the Reptile Building including:
- A stunning new mural created by a local artist.
- A portrait gallery of reptiles from around the world designed to present these remarkable species in a new light.
- An interactive habitat wall where young guests can explore the diverse environments reptiles call home.
- A special narrative spotlight on the Rio Grande cooter, a turtle native to New Mexico and a focus of Chevron and the BioPark’s shared conservation efforts.
Zoo guests can participate in hands-on activities, animal care chats, and educational discovery stations, and watch reptile feeding sessions throughout the day. Families also get to create a take-home reptile refuge, helping support native species in their own neighborhoods.
Chevron Community Day follows recent GRT-funded improvements to reptile habitats including an immersive new home for the alligator snapping turtle, enhancing both animal welfare and guest experience.
All activities are included with regular admission. Guests who order their Chevron Community Day zoo tickets online in advance are eligible to purchase their tickets at half the regular admission cost while supplies last. Discounted tickets are limited and expected to sell out quickly. All guests are encouraged to purchase advance tickets for the quickest entry during the busy spring break season.
Teachers who present a valid New Mexico school ID can receive free educator appreciation gifts and classroom-ready teaching resources from Chevron while supplies last.
Chevron has been part of New Mexico for over a century. As a local conservation partner, they proudly support the BioPark’s work to protect native wildlife, restore habitats, and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Together Chevron and the BioPark are helping protect native species like the Rio Grande cooter and preserve the New Mexico landscape we all call home.
