ABQ BioPark Unveils Tadpole Springs for End-of-Season Splashes

A new interactive fountain for young explorers!

September 25, 2025

The ABQ BioPark has opened Tadpole Springs, a compact, kid-focused interactive fountain at the BioPark Aquarium where children can cool off and play. The first phase of construction wrapped just in time for some end-of-season splashing fun. It will remain open on weekends through October 5.

With cattail-inspired sprayers, this feature is designed for families with young children. The space features two play areas scaled for different ages: a family zone with more dynamic arcs for older kids and a tot zone with gentler sprays for little ones.

Tadpole Springs gives families a refreshing place to pause, play outdoors and make memories together during their visit,” said Allyson Zahm, BioPark guest experience manager. “It’s a joyful addition that continues our commitment to creating experiences where children connect with nature.”

The layout is also designed to support caregivers with clear sightlines, nearby seating and an easy entry and exit. Behind the scenes, a closed-loop recirculating system filters and treats the water to support safe, efficient operation.

Tadpole Springs, located outside the BioPark’s Shark Reef Cafe, operates during warm weather and posted hours, and it will only be open weekends until the end of this season on October 5. However, water lovers don’t have to be sad for long, as the feature will reopen with warmer springtime weather.

Tadpole Springs brings a whole new way for families to splash, play, and connect with nature,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “It’s another reason our BioPark is one of the best places to enjoy the outdoors together.”

Adult supervision is required, and water shoes, towels and sun protection are recommended. Participants will get soaking wet. For more information about Tadpole Springs, please see the BioPark Aquarium amenities page
