The City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs RSVP Program is looking for on-call volunteers who would be available to clear paths and driveways for seniors age 60 and over. Volunteers are asked to bring their own snow shovels. Dates: As needed, in times of heavy snowfall. Volunteers will agree to be on stand-by. Location: City-wide by Zip code. Volunteers may request their area of preference. Time of Day: As needed, daylight hours. Minimum Age: 18 years or older. A Senior Citizen I Know Essay Contest (City Wide, from Monday, January 04, 2010 2:19 PM to Monday, February 15, 2010 5:00 PM)

The contest is designed to celebrate Older Americans month in May. All elementary school children, grades one through five, are invited to write an essay about a senior citizen that they know. The contest promotes understanding and appreciation between generations. This is a wonderful way to incorporate good writing skills into your curriculum.
