56 Police Cadets to Soon Join APD

APD Academy and the CNM Law Enforcement Academy are simultaneously training cadets.

Sept. 29, 2020

As the Albuquerque Police Department continues to recruit and bring new officers onto the force, there are currently 56 cadets in training.

For the first time, the APD Academy and the CNM Law Enforcement Academy are simultaneously training cadets. This is all in an effort to help address the workforce demand for more officers on the streets of Albuquerque and statewide.

Currently there are 37 cadets enrolled in the APD Academy and an additional 19 individuals are enrolled in the CNMLEA. An additional 12 officers are expected to start in the next lateral academy.

The CNM Law Enforcement Academy first launched in January 2019 with 20 cadets from the Albuquerque Police Department to help develop the partnership.

The Albuquerque Police Department has been actively recruiting new officers and with this program, we are able to provide a collegiate level education and training for cadets who want to enter a career in law enforcement and focus on community policing.
