Welcome to the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, a Gateway to Exploration, Discovery, & Achievement.

About the Museum

Balloons take flight above the Balloon Museum.

Named in honor of Albuquerque's pioneering aeronauts Maxie Anderson and Ben Abruzzo, the museum opened in 2005, and has since welcomed over one million visitors from across New Mexico, the United States, and around the world. Read our Strategic Plan.

Description

Join local author Kat Davidson for a reading of her new book, Kira and Lulu Visit the Planets.

Stories, songs, movement and crafts for our youngest explorers. Ideal for ages up to 6 years old, but all are welcome! Two sessions every Wednesday.

Description

The High Desert Jazz Band and the Albuquerque Concert Band head back to the east lawn of the Balloon Museum this summer for a series of five FREE evening concerts that feature themes popular with the crowds.

Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets.  A local Food Truck will be on site so that attendees may purchase food and beverages while enjoying the concert.

The Balloon Museum will have extended hours and FREE admission from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. during each summer concert performance.

Concert Dates: June 5, 19, July 17, 31, and August 14, 2019.

Founded in 2012, the High Desert Jazz Band is an all-volunteer community group bringing the sounds of the Big Band Era to private gatherings, community events, and charities. The musicians and conductor benefit by having an opportunity to work together to advance their artistic talents, while preserving the art of American Jazz, and contributing to the cultural well-being of the community.      

The Albuquerque Concert Band is an all-volunteer ensemble of adult musicians rehearsing and performing throughout the year. In existence for over forty years, the band has been enriching the culture of the Albuquerque community in performance of the great heritage of band music.

The Balloon Museum is excited to partner with Be Greater Than Average to offer a variety of STEAM Camp opportunities this summer.

TAKE FLIGHT!  camps will explore and tell exciting stories of all things defying gravity. Campers may be telling stories in film, participating in STEAM experiments or building robots - no matter what you can be sure that drones, rockets, inter-galactic space travel, and even paper airplanes will be part of the TAKE FLIGHT! lesson!

Stop Motion Animation
Ages 6 - 9
July 8 - 12 ( 9 am - 2 pm)

An introduction to 3D storytelling using classic LEGO minifigs. Campers will learn to craft a story, develop characters, and plot all while using technology to create short movies as well as create the audio track and music scores. Films will be created by student producers using stop motion animation and other techniques to tell stories that they create frame by frame. All supplies are provided.... you bring the imagination!

Robotics
Ages 8 - 14
July 8 - 12 (9 am - 4 pm)

Students will work in groups to build a team robot using a VEX clawbot kit and take part in drone demonstrations and learning. Faced with a variety of real-life challenges, students will actively develop their problem-solving skills as they learn to drive and troubleshoot their team robot. Using their robots to conquer the TAKE FLIGHT! challenge, students will learn the importance of mechanics, robot coding, thinking scientifically, teamwork, time management and the power of the Engineering Design Process. In addition, students will learn about the history and the development of Drones as we explore this growing technology. This program is suitable for all levels of experience for students 8 and older.
