Mayor Berry, AFD Union President Announce Contract Agreement

Mayor Richard J. Berry and International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 244 President Diego Arencon announced a contract agreement between the city and the union that includes a raise for all Albuquerque Fire Department firefighters and new Firefighter Safety and Wellness Programs.

Today, the contract was signed by Mayor Berrry and represents the second contract between Mayor Berry and IAFF Local 244 since the administration assumed office. The pay for all members will increase across the board by 2.5% with 1.25% in July of 2015 and 1.25% in March of 2016. The contact also address Firefighter Safety and Wellness such as incorporating mandatory fitness standards and medical screening.

Mayor Berry acknowledged the hard work of all the parties involved in coming to an agreement. "I am pleased that my management team has been able to work in good faith with the union leadership to negotiate a pay proposal that acknowledges the hard work of our men and women of the Albuquerque Fire Department, while still maintaining a fiscally responsible budget on behalf of the taxpayers," stated Mayor Berry. Much credit goes to Chief David Downey and CAO Robert Perry for their ability to accomplish this agreement.”
