Transit Director Danny Holcomb is retiring after nearly three decades with City of Albuquerque.

In his final role, he served as director of the department for the past two years, leading staff through a pandemic that posed many challenges to the city’s public transportation services. Holcomb also helped guide the department through the launch and expansion of ART service.

“Coming back to Transit to lead the department where I started so long ago was a tremendous honor. I am grateful for all those who guided and mentored me throughout my career.” Holcomb said.

“Danny has been a great asset to the City over his years of service, and an incredible example of the career growth that’s possible here,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “I’m grateful to have had his steady leadership at the helm of the Transit Department during such crucial times. We look forward to the future of Transit and wish Danny the best in this next chapter.”

Holcomb, began his career 30 years ago gaining valued experience in the private and public transportation sector. He worked his way up from his position as a driver with ABQ RIDE into management ranks within the Transit and Senior Affairs departments. Holcomb also served as the Rio Metro Transit Manager for Valencia County for a brief time.

He took on the role as director of the City of Albuquerque’s Transit Department in October 2019, and brought a unique perspective to the position, due to his previous roles within the department.

“I came back to the department wanting to make things just make sense. If we had a policy that was old and outdated and didn’t make sense anymore, we had to change the policy,” Holcomb said.

Following Holcomb’s departure, Transit Deputy Director Stephanie Dominguez will act as interim director.
