City’s Transit Department in Need of Drivers, Bonus Offered

70+ positions currently open, max bonus of up to $1,000

The City of Albuquerque Transit Department is offering an incentive and hiring bonus to those interested in becoming a bus driver.

Currently, more than 70 positions are open for Motorcoach Operators (bus drivers) within the Transit Department. The need for more drivers is an issue that the Department worked hard to address prior to the pandemic and is continuing its recruitment campaign online, via social media, and through various marketing strategies, ensuring that the message reaches those interested in this opportunity. Now, as demand for public transportation rises as the city opens up, these positions are vital to getting the community back up and running.

New hires are eligible for a maximum bonus of $1,000. Upon completion of the probationary period drivers will receive $250, after nine months an additional $250, and following completion of one year $500.

Transfers from within the City of Albuquerque will receive $500 after completing one year of employment with the Transit Department. Current employees who refer a candidate who is not already employed with the City will get a $100 finders fee. Referring employees must have completed their probationary period. Other rules and restrictions apply.

It’s an ongoing search. We’re eager to fill these positions and do our part in getting Albuquerque back on its feet.” 

The incentive and hiring bonus are available now through December 31, 2022.
