APD arrests murder suspect in missing person case

Monday, Dec. 13, 2022

ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives arrested David Knotts today on a murder charge stemming from missing persons case that was opened in June 2022.

Knotts, 52, is accused of fatally shooting Alexander Renner, 37, during an altercation on May 4, 2022, and leaving his body wrapped in a rug in the garage of a home at 12224 Vienna Dr., N.E.

Missing Persons detectives and homicide detectives learned in September that Knotts was suspected of killing Renner, who had been staying with Knotts at the home. Detectives secured a search warrant for the home, where they located the decomposed body of Renner.

Through investigation, detectives determined that Knotts was responsible for Renner’s death.

Knotts was arrested today and he is being booked into the Metro Detention Center on an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.
