Lucky Paws Adoption Center Expands Days of Service

Fully staffed center helps families adopt their perfect pet
October 24, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE — The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) is expanding Lucky Paws Adoption Center days of operation to seven days a week. Now being fully staffed, Lucky Paws will bring much needed support to AWD’s overpopulated shelters.

“Lucky Paws Adoption Center does an incredible job caring for a variety of homeless pets,” said Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department. “Our utmost priority is matching our pets with people that will provide them with a loving home. I’m proud of my staff for their compassionate approach and service excellence in finding our pets their forever homes.”

In 2007, the City of Albuquerque took a big step in the right direction with a very different approach by opening an adoption center in Coronado Center Mall, naming the center Lucky Paws which proved a positive, happy shelter environment that has worked for companion pets and for the people who adopt them.

Lucky Paws has the look of a modern, attractive retail shop, rather than a traditional look of an animal shelter. Pets can be viewed by mall patrons who might never have gone to a shelter or considered pet adoption.

“We’re expanding hours to connect more families with our furry friends, making it easier for folks to find their perfect pet,” said Mayor Keller. “Lucky Paws has helped thousands of pets find their forever home, and we will continue to care for animals in need across Albuquerque.”

Lucky Paws mission is, “To serve as tireless champions for the animals of Albuquerque by providing them the finest care available along with hands-on assistance in finding happy homes.” Since its opening sixteen years ago, Lucky Paws has found homes for 26,605 animals. The store is about 3,000 square feet, and has 13 employees, 14 dog kennels, 26 cat kennels and 2 windows that can be used for animal displays.

In honor of Lucky Paws expanded days of service, the adoption fee is waived for any pet. Each adoption will include spay or neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. Along with a dog adoption, AWD is providing one day of free basic dog training. A free 30-minute basic bath coupon will be furnished from Boofy’s Best for Pets with every pet adoption.

The staff is ready to help find your perfect match.
