Give Your Pet a Spring Tune-Up
ALBUQUERQUE — Spring is almost here and it’s a perfect time to think about the benefits of a “Spring Tune-Up” for your pet. Protect your treasured pet by making sure their vaccinations are current.
The City’s Animal Welfare Department (AWD) encourages pet owners to properly vaccinate your pet. This begins with a series of puppy and kitten shots and then regular boosters throughout their adulthood.
"AWD firmly believes that preventive pet care can have a dramatic impact on the health, quality of life, and longevity of your pets," said Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department. “Together, we can keep our furry companions happy, healthy, and safe from preventable diseases.”
When the weather starts to get warm, we are all wanting to be outside, and many people think this is the perfect time to take your cute puppy out for stroll and show off the new addition to the family. Unfortunately, this time of year can bring a very sad realization of how many puppies in our community are not vaccinated against very deadly but preventable diseases.
“Part of being a pet friendly city means staying informed and prepared when it comes to pet care,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “As we head into Spring, taking preventive measures can help your family pet enjoy a long and healthy life.”
Vaccinating your pet has long been considered one of the easiest ways to help your pet live a long, healthy life. Diseases prevalent in wildlife, such as rabies and distemper, can infect unvaccinated pets. Vaccinations prevent many pet illnesses that can be passed between animals and help avoid costly treatments.
Be proactive and keep your family pets healthy and happy!
