Little Free Libraries
Animal Welfare Department Adds Little Free Libraries at Both Shelters.

The Little Free Library program is a free book-sharing box that operates on the honor system: anyone can take a book or leave a book to share with others. Its mission is simple yet powerful; inspire readers and expand book access for all.
Take a Book, Share a Book
The core principle is that you can take a book and, when you’re able, leave a different book to share. Research repeatedly shows that having lots of books at home helps kids become better educated, well-adjusted adults. By supporting Little Free Libraries, Animal Welfare is helping strengthen community connections while encouraging the joy of reading.
“Animal Welfare is about more than caring for pets,” said Carolyn Ortega, Director of the Animal Welfare Department. “It’s also about caring for people and building a stronger community. These Little Free Libraries give families a chance to share knowledge, spark imagination, and create connections right here at our shelters.”
