Animal Welfare Department “Keeping Families Together” Pet Food Pantry

The “Keeping Families Together” Pet Food Pantry is a community resource designed to assist Albuquerque families and individuals in the City of Albuquerque who are experiencing financial hardship and need help feeding their animal companions.

The pet food pantry is meant to be a supplemental food supply. This program helps ensure pets can remain with the families who love them. The Pet Food Pantry relies completely on donations.

Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the official friends of the Animal Welfare Department. Donations made in support of the “Keeping Families Together” Pet Food Pantry through Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres are tax deductible.

Support the Pet Food Pantry

Cat and dog food donations are graciously accepted at Animal Welfare Department city shelters seven days a week. Donations may be dropped off daily between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at any AWD city shelter location.

Donations of the following items are always needed:

  • Dry and canned dog food
  • Dry and canned cat food
  • Opened bags are accepted if they are sealed up thoroughly
  • Cat litter
  • Collars, leashes, beds, and blankets

The Animal Welfare Department also has an Amazon Wish List for Albuquerque shelter animals, making it easy to purchase pet food and supplies that can be shipped directly to the Pet Food Pantry.

Your support helps keep the pantry stocked and ensures pets stay healthy, happy, and in their loving homes.

Hours of Operation

Albuquerque resident owners are able to pick up food from AWD Eastside or Westside city shelters. At the pet food pantry, maximum two bags of dog food and/or one bag cat food will be given to participants. The amounts distributed may vary based on available donations and are subject to change without notice.

Eastside shelter: Open - Sun, Mon. and Wed. from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Westside shelter: Open – Mon – Sun. from 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Important Things to Note:

  • Animal Welfare Department serves the Albuquerque area only. 
  • We are not able to deliver food.
  • Pet food is available on a first come first served basis.
  • Pet food is donated to AWD, so we cannot guarantee any certain brands, varieties, or diets.
  • You will be asked to provide an ID and will receive a pet food pantry card.
  • We will not distribute pet food outside of the designated days and hours listed above.
  • We reserve the right to refuse service.
