Let's Plant ABQ
Let’s Plant ABQ is a unified campaign to broadly support Mayor Tim Keller’s initiative to plant 100,000 trees.
The Let’s Plant Albuquerque initiative is a broad community alliance that aims to plant 100,000 trees by 2030 to provide one tree for every child, as a gift from one generation to the next. Building Albuquerque’s urban canopy will take everyone in our city coming together to create a greener, cooler community for us all.
Use the resources below when you plant a tree at your home or business for the many economic, social, and environmental benefits for yourself and the community.
Many streets in Albuquerque have a special ribbon of landscaping between the sidewalk and the curb. With a simple Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) curb cut, you can irrigate that area with storm water and grow your garden.
Each organization works on tree planting and outreach projects, and are joining forces to make their collaborative efforts more effective.
To track these trees, the Urban Forestry Division uses software for inventorying, planning, and growing our urban canopy. Our data aids in informed decision making for urban designs, future developments, and preserving and enhancing our urban forest. Through collaboration, we were able to obtain all projects that have come through development review services and building permit since 2018, when our initiative was started. From these files we are able to track trees planted on private developments. This allows us to count trees on private developments towards our goal and gives us insight into planting trends among developers. We feel that our data tracking is unprecedented.
The aim of this initiative is to plant more trees, but also to build community involvement. To find out how you can get involved, take the pledge to plant a tree on your property and reach out to [email protected]
