“Operation Cooldown” Happening August 5 & 6
City offers refreshing fun during extreme heat.
The Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) will activate sprinklers in five parks tomorrow, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6, as part of “Operation Cooldown 2025” since triple-digit temperatures are expected. Sprinkler play in parks gives families a fun, free way to cool off during daytime heat. The following parks (Group 2) will run sprinklers from 1-1:30 p.m. tomorrow:
- Briar Ridge Park – 7601 Mallard NW
- Alamosa Park – 1100 Bataan SW
- Chelwood Park – 13205 San Juan NE
- 4-H Park – 1401 Menaul NW
- Ridgecrest Park – 820 Ridgecrest SE
Here are the parks (Group 3) that will run sprinklers from 1-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6:
- Redlands Park – 5121 Sequoia NW
- Loma del Norte Park – 7511 Burke NE
- Singing Arrow Park – 12929 Piru SE
- Dennis Chavez Park – 715 Kathryn SE
- Aztec Park – 3400 Moon NE
Each Operation Cooldown group includes a park within the Sunport Pool service area, as that pool is currently closed for repairs. PRD balances this daytime watering by adjusting irrigation systems to save water at other times.
Also, as of today all City indoor pools return to fall/winter hours, and outdoor pools shift to a reduced schedule through Labor Day due to less demand, staffing, and funding once school begins:
- Rio Grande Pool – open weekdays for lap swim 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., (closed August 5); final day of the season is September 1.
- Eisenhower Pool – closed weekdays; open weekends through September 1.
- Sierra Vista Pool – closed weekdays; open weekends through September 1.
- Wilson Pool – closed weekdays; open weekends through September 1.
- Montgomery Pool – closed for the season.
- East San Jose Pool – closed for the season.
Here are the City spray pads that are open:
