North Domingo Baca Aquatic Center Swimming Along
The Parks and Recreation Department (PRD) is excited to announced that plans for the North Domingo Baca Aquatic Center are moving forward. The City will be issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) in January 2024 to select a firm to build it.
“I’m happy to report that this project is moving along, and we’re getting incredibility close to breaking ground on Phase 1,” said PRD Director Dave Simon.
There will be a pre-bid conference for interested contractors the week of January 8, with the RFP going out on January 16. The groundbreaking for the project could happen as soon as this spring, after site work, which includes the large retaining wall, wraps up in April. As the budget is still short for the completion of this project in its entirety, the plans for Phase 1 are being finalized now.
The current budget for this project is $37 million. Funding sources include state grants, gross revenue tax, GO bonds, APS GO Bonds, Council set-side, and miscellaneous monies. The City appreciates the support of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and the dozens of legislators who gave to the project.
The City celebrated the grand opening of the splash pad at North Domingo Baca Park back in September, the first aquatic feature of the park and immediate area. The splash pad includes an imaginative water play area for children and families along with a variety of 24 deck sprays and jets.
