Five more tennis courts at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center have been upgraded, marking another major step in improving one of Albuquerque’s most popular recreational facilities.

Over the past year, 13 of the facility’s 18 courts have been resurfaced, enhancing play quality, safety, and accessibility for local athletes and visitors. The resurfacing of the most recent five courts was made possible through a collaboration between the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department and the United States Tennis Association (USTA), combining local bond funds with national grant support.

“Investing in the Jerry Cline Tennis Center is an investment in our families and neighborhoods,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “These improvements give our community a safer, more enjoyable space to play, connect, and grow together.”

The five-court resurfacing project had a total cost of $112,300 including:

  • $50,000 from the USTA Southwest Section.
  • $40,000 from the USTA National Tennis Venue Services.
  • $22,300 from the City of Albuquerque.

“The Jerry Cline Tennis Complex is the heart of tennis in the greater Albuquerque area and the perfect setting for the world’s healthiest sport,” said Cee Ann Vaughan, USTA NNM representative. “It serves 2,500 players of all ages in Albuquerque who participate in USTA programming using public courts along with many more recreational players that don’t participate in organized programs.”

"USTA is dedicated to preserving and enhancing tennis court infrastructure around the country,” said Rene Matusiak, USTA Southwest Section representive. “This year alone, USTA awarded over $11 million toward facility projects, and we're proud to support Albuquerque's finest tennis facility. The USTA Southwest section is excited to continue our great relationship with the City promote its thriving tennis community."

The resurfacing celebration coincided with the Middle School Tennis League tournament (Oct. 17-19), which brought together student athletes from 17 schools across the region. The event featured remarks from USTA representatives, local coaches, and Parks & Recreation, as well as on-court activities and photo opportunities with participating players.

With this latest project, the City and USTA continue their shared goal of growing tennis participation, improving public facilities, and strengthening community recreation programs.
