Game, Set, Refresh: Sierra Vista Courts to be Resurfaced
10 courts score upgrades
ALBUQUERQUE – A major resurfacing project launches at Sierra Vista West Tennis Complex on March 19, improving playability and expanding recreation opportunities for the community.
The City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) will resurface 10 courts for the first time since 2005, marking a significant investment in maintaining safe, high-quality amenities for residents. As part of the project, two tennis courts will also be “dual striped” to accommodate both tennis and pickleball. When the project is complete, Sierra Vista will have a total of six pickleball courts: two dedicated and four dual.
“These upgrades serve longtime tennis players and pickleball newcomers alike,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Multiuse spaces like this keep people connected, active, and energized.”
The $217,440 project is funded through a combination of 2025 state capital outlay funds allocated by State Senator Harold Pope ($120,000) and State Representative Joy Garratt ($50,000), and City Council District 1 set-aside funds ($96,000).
“Sierra Vista is a great Westside facility that also serves the entire City,” said PRD Director David Simon. “This investment will benefit generations of players.”
To keep some courts open during construction and minimize disruption to public use, the project will happen in phases. It is expected to take approximately one month to complete, weather permitting.
These upgrades, in time for National Pickleball Month in April and National Tennis Month in May, reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing recreational spaces and meeting the growing demand for sports facilities in Albuquerque.
