City Opens Spray Pad at Alamosa Park

Celebration of City’s 7th Spray Pad kicks off summer aquatic season.
May 23, 2025

Just in time for the warm weather and holiday weekend, the City is opening its seventh spray pad. The new feature, at Alamosa Park, offers another free, fun way for families to stay cool and active this summer. The interactive spray pad is the second in the City’s Southwest quadrant.

“We started with just a few spray pads, and now more neighborhoods than ever have a fun, free place to cool off and connect,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This is the fastest growing part of Albuquerque, and kids in the area are going to love spending time at Alamosa.”

“Luckily, so many kids from our community will be able to enjoy this awesome, state-of-the-art splash pad,” said Jeanette Baca, president of the Alamosa Neighborhood Association.

The Alamosa spray pad features 12 angled sprayer jets, designed for kids to run and play through. An onsite activator allows visitors to turn the spray features on during operational hours, daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. The recirculating water is treated with both chlorine and a UV system, ensuring that it is safe for the public.

The new spray pad adds to the amenities at Alamosa Park and Community Center, and is part of the City’s ongoing investment in accessible, family-friendly recreational spaces. The spray pad also supports the Parks & Recreation Department’s (PRD) mission to provide free and low-cost summer fun for Albuquerque families.

“I want to thank the Alamosa Neighborhood Association, Mayor Keller, Youth and Family Services and Parks & Recreation Department for their dedication to this project,” said Councilor Klarissa Peña. “This splash pad comes just in time for summer, so our children and even adults, will have a great time while cooling off at the City’s newest splash pad!”

Starting tomorrow, May 24, the spray pads at Alamosa Park, North Domingo Baca Park, and Civic Plaza will be open and operating. In addition, City outdoor pools will be open for the holiday weekend and begin full summer hours May 31. City pools will be closed for staff training May 27-30.

“This weekend kicks off another great season of summer fun in our city,” said PRD Director Dave Simon. “Stay cool, stay safe, stay Querque.”
