City Dedicates Tingley Field Pavilion to Adele Hundley
Ceremony honors longtime public servant and Barelas advocate.
The City has named the pavilion overlooking the Tingley Field playground as Adele Hundley Pavilion. This dedication event, part of the Stories of Us initiative, brought together community members, City officials, Hundley, and family and friends to celebrate her decades of public service and unwavering commitment to the historic Barelas neighborhood and the City as a whole.
“It’s never been about me, it’s about helping people,” said Adele Hundley. “When you look at all the work we do as politicians, you don’t do it alone—you do it because you have a lot of good people supporting you.”
A native of Barelas, Hundley’s impact has spanned both City and state leadership. She served as a New Mexico state representative from 1979-1982, where she wrote legislation that created the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA). This landmark institution continues to provide affordable housing financing statewide.
Hundley also served on the Albuquerque City Council for two terms (1983-1987, 1997-2001). She’s known as a steadfast champion for Barelas and a leading voice in the early preservation and redevelopment of the Albuquerque Rail Yards.
“Adele is the kind of leader whose work uplifts the community in lasting ways,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Her dedication has without question made Albuquerque stronger.”
This renaming is part of the ABQ Stories of Us initiative, which invites people to nominate anyone whose story deserves permanent recognition in our gathering spaces. Community members are encouraged to share stories and suggest future honorees at cabq.gov/stories-of-us.
