TODAY- The City of Albuquerque is preparing for the annual Freedom Fourth event at Balloon Fiesta Park and reminding people of the fire dangers here in the Duke City. As the 4th of July holiday season approaches, city officials encourage celebrating safely and responsibly. Albuquerque Fire Rescue and 311 are preparing to respond to reports of illegal fireworks and emergencies that occur. Even with recent rainfall, Albuquerque is still at a high fire danger risk. Residents are reminded that no fires or fireworks are permitted in city parks, open spaces or in the bosque.

“We are asking citizens not to use illegal fireworks. Purchase your fireworks in the city limits; any fireworks purchased outside the city limits are illegal,” said Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Kris Romero. “Leave the fireworks to the professionals. Come enjoy the show at Balloon Fiesta Park and celebrate safely.”

Patrols will be responding to reports of illegal fireworks and the community is being directed to utilize 311 to properly report illegal fireworks. Residents can report illegal fireworks to 311. Folks with digital access are encouraged to report online at cabq.gov/fireworks or on the ABQ311 app. Community Contact agents will be available during the following extended hours over the holiday weekend:

  • Friday, June 30 from 6 a.m. to midnight
  • Saturday, July 1 from 6 a.m. to midnight
  • Sunday, July 2 from 9 a.m. to midnight
  • Monday, July 3 from 6 a.m. to midnight
  • Tuesday, July 4 from 3 p.m. to midnight

“In Albuquerque, the Fourth of July celebration at Balloon Fiesta Park continues to be a beloved tradition for our families,” said CAO Lawrence Rael. “But no matter where you celebrate, it’s important to remember to keep the festivities safe and smart, as well as fun. So, let’s all remember to celebrate the Independence Day holiday responsibly.”

Freedom 4th is a free event for all ages and will take place Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Balloon Fiesta Park. Gates will open at 3:00 pm. Families can enjoy food from local vendors, family-friendly activities, live music and a firework show. More details on the event, concerts and restrictions can be found here.
