Albuquerque Gets a Front-Row Seat to the World’s Biggest Tournament

ALBUQUERQUE– The City of Albuquerque and New Mexico United are teaming up to bring the excitement of one of the world’s biggest sporting events directly to local neighborhoods with Summer of Soccer, a series of free community watch parties celebrating the FIFA World Cup.

Hosted at city parks and public gathering spaces across Albuquerque, the watch parties will feature live broadcasts of international soccer matchups, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and opportunities for residents to come together and experience the global game in a community setting.

“Whether you’re a die-hard soccer fan or just looking for a fun night out, Summer of Soccer is about bringing our community together,” said Mayor Tim Keller “These watch parties will transform parks and public spaces across the city into vibrant community gathering spaces all month long.”

The month-long series reflects Albuquerque’s passion for soccer and highlights the City’s commitment to creating vibrant community experiences in parks and public spaces.

“The world’s game has come to North America this summer and we’re looking forward to celebrating it with the people of Albuquerque all over our great city,” said Ron Patel, President of New Mexico United.

“You don’t need a ticket to the stadium to be part of the action,” said PRD Director Dave Simon “We’re turning parks across Albuquerque into front-row seats for the world’s game, giving residents a chance to connect, celebrate, and kick off summer together.”

All watch parties are free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, umbrellas, and their favorite team jerseys to enjoy the matches with fellow fans. For daytime matches, attendees are encouraged to bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.

Food trucks will be available on-site, with food and beverages available for purchase. Guests may use cash or card, depending on vendor availability. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own food, drinks, and snacks.

This series of watch parties in June will cover Team USA games during the “pool play” phase of the FIFA World Cup.  Should Team USA advance to the “knockout round,” more watch parties may be announced.
