Human Rights Board

Information about the Albuquerque Human Rights Board.

Membership

All members shall be named by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. The Mayor shall endeavor in all appointments to create and maintain a Board broadly representative of the city population, and in particular, its racial, ethnic and cultural spectrum.

 

Description

Pursuant to Article VIII of The Albuquerque City Charter & the Albuquerque Code of ordinances § 11-3, in order to assure the public safety, public health and general welfare, the Purpose of the Albuquerque Human Rights Board is to:

  • Preserve, protect, and promote human rights and human dignity;
  • Promote and encourage the recognition and exercise of human responsibility;
  • Protect and promote equality of access to public goods and services; and
  • Prohibit discrimination on the basis of age, ancestry, color, cultural headdress, disability, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and source of income* in the at least the following areas:
    1. in places of public accommodations;
    2. In housing accommodations; and
    3. In commercial space.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Albuquerque, should contact the Office of Civil Rights at 505-768-3138 as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled event.
