City Earns Family Friendly Business Award
The City was recognized as a Platinum Level leader for implementing family friendly policies in the workplace.
The City of Albuquerque has earned Platinum level distinction for its workplace practices and policies by Family Friendly New Mexico. FFNM recognizes employers that have adopted policies that give New them an advantage in recruiting and retaining the best employees, thanks to family-first polices, benefits packages, and workplace values.
“We’ve worked hard to make sure our benefits packages are the best, and this recognition shows that we support our employees and their families,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This recognition reinforces our commitment to making the City a place where people can build both a career and a life”
The Family Friendly New Mexico initiative offers training, support and resources to businesses on how to implement family friendly policies; provides recognition to businesses and organizations that offer their employees family friendly benefits; and, acts as a resource and clearinghouse of information for businesses and community leaders as they develop policies on issues such as paid family leave and childcare assistance.
“Our team has worked hard to find and provide the benefits that employees want such as on-site medical care for employees and their families, flexible leave programs, robust insurance, and much more,” said Ian Stoker, Director of Human Resources for the City. “As part of our employees' Total Rewards, the benefits help to make the City of Albuquerque an attractive and competitive place to work and thrive.”
“As we grow the state’s economy, we have the opportunity to be a national leader in offering New Mexicans workplaces that help companies attract and keep the best workers,” said Giovanna Rossi, founder and Director of Family Friendly New Mexico. “Implementing family friendly policies can be a simple, concrete investment a company can make to ensure it can compete for highly qualified employees. Studies have shown that costs associated with creating family friendly benefits are more than made up for in improved productivity, employee morale and employee retention. We are happy to recognize the City of Albuquerque as a distinguished leader in implementing family friendly policies.”
The recognition from FFNM is about more than conventional employment benefits. It recognizes the City’s commitment to professional development through the opportunities employees are given to further their careers and education with tuition reimbursement, educational leave, flexible schedules, and the leave to serve on community boards and committees. It also reflects the values reflected in the City’s community based initiatives, sustainability practices, and efforts to maintain a broad and engaged workforce. In terms of typical employment benefits, the City offers medical, pharmacy, dental and vision benefits packages, as well as:
- Retirement through Public Employees Retirement Authority
- On Site and Mobile Health Clinics for employees and families including pediatrics
- Paid Parental Leave
- Generous Vacation and Sick Leave
