Albuquerque Fire Rescue Promotes 45 Members

45 members take on new roles and responsibilities across multiple ranks

March 05, 2026

Today, the City of Albuquerque, Mayor Tim Keller, and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo hosted a ceremony to celebrate the promotion of 45 members of Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR). This ceremony recognized promotions at ranks of Driver, Captain and Battalion Chief. These promotions exemplify the dedication of AFR’s members to the community and the department.

The new badges and bugles are a visual symbol of rank, but what isn’t seen is the countless hours of training and studying that go into the certification and promotional process. This promotion and badge pinning ceremony honors that process and commitment to service. The department depends on every rank for its success, but its progress is driven by those that provide solutions to the challenges that come with rank. Today, Albuquerque and the department celebrates those that have risen to the challenge.

  • 3 Battalion Chiefs

“AFR continues to be one of the finest and busiest fire departments in the nation”, said Mayor Tim Keller. “These firefighters have stepped up for our families, and we’re stepping up for them and AFR by hiring cadet classes, building new stations, getting better equipment, improved training facilities and competitive wages. Today’s ceremony and promotions embody all of these efforts and demonstrate this commitment to public safety.”

“45 promotions across the ranks are a testament to the progress of the department,” said Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo. “These ceremonies are a reminder to stop and celebrate the good things and honor the work that the men and women of AFR do on a daily basis. Congratulations to all that promoted and to those that were recognized for your service. Thank you for your devotion to AFR and commitment to Albuquerque.”

In addition to the promotions and badge pinning ceremony, several AFR crews were also given special recognition for life saving efforts, both on and off duty, at multiple recent events. These recognitions honor more than individual actions; they reflect a culture of service and dedication that defines Albuquerque Fire Rescue. Saving lives is the greatest measure of the fire service.
