Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) is pleased to announce the graduation of the 105th Cadet Class. 22 cadets completed the 18-week academy and will now join the department as sworn firefighters. They enter the ranks at probationary Firefighter 2nd Class and receive 11 months of intensive on the job training and monthly evaluations in order to attain the rank of Firefighter 1st Class.

AFR answered 103,000 calls for service in 2025. These new firefighters will supplement staffing levels and will become members of some of the busiest and best crews in the nation.

“The new firefighters of the 105th have shown they have what it takes to uphold AFR’s high standard of emergency response by graduating from this extremely challenging process," said Mayor Tim Keller. "These cadets have accepted the challenge to become firefighters and have started the journey to carry on the legacy of Albuquerque Fire Rescue."

“Today we celebrate the courage and accomplishments of these 22 cadets by taking the oath as firefighters with Albuquerque Fire Rescue,” said Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo. “We also celebrate the AFR’s Academy Staff who have graduated over 370 firefighters since 2018. This commitment to staffing levels, skill of our training staff and field training officers will ensure these cadets become the firefighters that Albuquerque expects and deserves”

Albuquerque Fire Rescue's 106th Cadet Class consisting of 45 cadets begins July 13, 2026.
