December 4, 2019

On Thursday December 5, 2019, Nob Hill Mainstreet will kick-off the holiday season with the 24thannual Nob Hill Shop & Stroll in historic Nob Hill. The event, along Central Avenue between Girard Blvd. and Washington St. and south to Silver Ave., will feature Santa Claus himself starting at 5:30pm, and the traditional tree lighting at 6pm, all in the horseshoe parking lot of the Nob Hill Business Center.

“This stretch of Central is home to hundreds of small businesses, and we are asking Albuquerque to ‘Buy Local’ all December. Supporting small businesses and local restaurants strengthens Albuquerque’s economy,” said Mayor Keller. “And now, you can take ART for free to access great local events like this one.”

In addition to Santa, New Mexico United soccer players will be in attendance for photos and autographs with fans and a brand-new United holiday ugly sweater will be available for purchase for the first time.

Shoppers can find unique one-of-a-kind gifts at shops in Nob Hill ranging from jewelry to green chile air fresheners, art to comic books, and much more. Three food trucks will be parked in various locations in addition to many great dining establishments in Nob Hill, such as Cinnamon Spice & Sugar Café, Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza, Two Fools Tavern, Tractor Brewery and others.

Highlights include:

  • Appearances by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus + photos!
  • Tree Lighting
  • Carolers and a Quartet
  • Glass blown ornaments
  • Luminarias
  • Street art, live music, dancing and flamenco performances

Additionally, the 2nd annual Youth Artisan Market will take place during the Shop & Stroll from 6pm-8pm hosted inside various Nob Hill businesses.

December is ‘Buy Local Month’ in Albuquerque. Burqueños are urged to support locally-owned businesses by dining at local establishments, shopping local, and getting services (repair, beauty etc.) at local shops. Local businesses across Albuquerque are encouraged to prominently display a #BuyLocal window sticker to help customers identify local businesses. Businesses interested in requesting a #BuyLocal sticker should visit the City’s Buy Local webpage. Residents can find a list of opportunities to shop locally, such as holiday markets, fairs, pop-ups and other events on the City’s webpage.

Nob Hill Shop & Stroll is free to the public. Shoppers are encouraged to Ride ART for free to the event. Additionally, free 2-hour parking is available along Central Avenue. Amherst from Central south to Silver will be closed to vehicles.
