Led by City Council District 6 community members, the new growers market received the most votes from 243 community submitted entries in 2025. District 6 City Councilor Nichole L. Rogers spearheaded the pilot in partnership with Participatory Budgeting Albuquerque (PBABQ). The Ribbon Cutting will also include the revealing of the name of the market that was voted for by District 6 community members. 312 votes were cast for the name of the new market.

In addition to the Ribbon Cutting and name reveal, the City will also be making a Call for Potential Operators for the new market.  The Call for Potential Operators is based upon the list of market goals and operator qualifications that a Working Group of 40+ District 6 community members identified since first meeting in December 2025.

After the ribbon cutting for the new market, a food truck will be on-site for attendees to purchase lunch before attending the Community Project Workshop that will be hosted by the PBABQ District 6 Steering Committee at the Albuquerque Community Safety Department’s Headquarters right next door.  During the Community Project Workshop, PB District 6 Steering Committee members and members of the public will have the opportunity to collaboratively:

  • Review all project ideas submitted during the Idea Collection Phase of the second round of PB in District 6 (April – May, 2026)
  • Identify emerging themes among those projects
  • Combine and integrate project ideas with neighbors to create “project clusters”
  • Start identifying the highest priority projects to be placed on the PB District 6 Ballot to be voted on by District 6 community members (slated to open in mid-July).
