The Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA)

Councilor Nichole L. Rogers, Council District 6 supports obtaining funding for the needs at our Louisiana-Gibson Regional Drainage Facility.

The Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA) was created in 1963 by the New Mexico Legislature with specific responsibility for managing flooding problems in greater Albuquerque. AMAFCA’s purpose is to prevent injury or loss of life, and to eliminate or minimize property damage. AMAFCA does this by building and maintaining flood control structures throughout the Albuquerque area.

Here is a map that outlines the AMAFCA sites in the Metro Area. Click here for the interactive map.

District 6 has needs to invest in our Louisiana-Gibson Regional Drainage Facility. All 11 city General Obligation (GO) bonds on the November 4, 2025, ballot were approved by Albuquerque voters. This included a specific Storm Sewer System Development Bond Measure for $8.95 million, which funds the development and renovation of the city's storm sewer system.

The Louisiana-Gibson Regional Drainage Facility is a key project within this broader storm drainage capital program. The 2025 GO Bond Program, totaling approximately $180 million across all categories, was adopted by the City Council in April 2025 and finalized by voters in the November 2025 election.AMAFCA
