Job Opportunity at the ABQ BioPark: Assistant Zookeeper II (Heritage Farm)
The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of the ABQ BioPark farm grounds, farm animals, and crops. A strong commitment to conservation and understanding of animal well-being is paramount. This position reports to the Heritage Farm Curator and is assigned to the Heritage Farm department.
The ABQ BioPark consists of the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden and Tingley Beach.
This position is employed through a temporary staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque, and is located at the ABQ BioPark. This full time position is limited to a two year term.
The Assistant Zookeeper II duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in the maintenance of the ABQ BioPark farm grounds and plants/crops to include, but not limited to, weeding, pruning, and planting.
- Assist in the maintenance and care of a variety of farm animals to include, but not limited to, feeding based on established diet preparation.
- Operate a variety of farming maintenance equipment including tractors and weedwhackers.
- Assist the public by responding to questions and inquiries related to area assigned.
- Assist with the preparation of the farm grounds for public access, events, and use.
- Participate in the basic repair, renovation and maintenance of farm grounds; may be required to clear land, repair, remove, and install a variety of fencing and structures, landscape materials, and other related components to maintain the appearance of the facility.
- Maintain records regarding daily activities as needed.
- Participate in pest control operations as needed.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
A Successful Assistant Zookeeper II will:
- Be familiar with animal husbandry practices.
- Have a friendly and open personality and enjoy working with a diverse cross-section of individuals.
- Be a contributing member of a highly functioning team.
- Be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions.
Qualifications
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy, moderate or light lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; walking or standing for prolonged periods.
Candidates must pass a security background check to be hired.
Work schedule:
Full-time; generally Sunday - Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Occasional short periods of holiday and evening work may be required.
Pay rate:
$12.50 per hour. This position is employed through a temporary staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
