Volunteer at the Balloon Museum during Fiesta

Volunteer with us during the 2021 Balloon Fiesta!

For balloon fiesta week in old town

The Balloon Museum is directly adjacent to Balloon Fiesta Park, and we attract nearly 25,000 visitors during the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta®.

The Balloon Museum will begin recruiting volunteers in August 2021 to support our operations during Fiesta 2021, and we invite you to join our team. For nine days each October, Albuquerque skies are painted with hundreds of hot-air balloons during the world's largest ballooning event. Join us as a volunteer and have the best view of Fiesta!

General Volunteer Information

Fiesta Volunteers are required to sign up for and attend a minimum of three shifts during the 2021 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta from Saturday, October 2, 2021, to Sunday, October 10, 2021.

Fiesta Volunteers will who sign up for and attend three shifts will receive the following:

  • Balloon Museum Lanyard 
  • Balloon Museum T-Shirt 
  • Parking Pass to park at the Balloon Museum during your shifts
  • 2021 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta General Admission Ticket

All Fiesta Volunteers (both experienced and new) are required to attend the new 2021 Balloon Museum Volunteer Training.

What Volunteer Opportunities are Available?

SHIFT SUPPORT (FLOOR): Volunteer will continuously walk around to check in with all other volunteer positions, will fill in for bathroom breaks for all other volunteer positions, and will be available to cover for any no-show volunteer positions. Volunteer will also support cleaning, by disinfecting touch exhibits when needed and picking up trash left in the museum. Continuous walking and bending required throughout the inside of the museum.

SHIFT SUPPORT (LAWN): Volunteer will continuously walk around to check in with all other volunteer positions, will fill in for bathroom breaks for all other volunteer positions, and will be available to cover for any no-show volunteer positions. Volunteer will also maintaining outside patio area near food trucks by picking up trash and pushing in chairs. Continuous walking and bending required around the outside patio area of the museum.

WELCOME GREETER: Volunteer will welcome visitors with joy as they enter the Balloon Museum, will offer directional information, and will answer questions about the museum, Balloon Fiesta, and Albuquerque. This will include being familiar with daily calendar of activities to direct groups and visitors. Continuous standing required inside of the museum at the entrance lobby. Accommodations can be made for seating if physical conditions require.

ELEVATION STATION ASSISTANT: Volunteer will monitor Elevation Station exhibit, will demonstrate and answer questions about exhibit interactives, and will troubleshoot rebooting interactives if needed. Volunteer will also need to monitor capacity in the space. Continuous standing, walking, and bending required inside of the museum at the Elevation Station exhibit.

MUSEUM TOUR DOCENTS (Trained Docents Only): Balloon Museum will offer daily tours at 2:00 pm throughout Balloon Fiesta. No registration for a tour is required. Paying visitors of the museum may meet inside at the entrance lobby area to participate. Trained and experienced docents will joyfully lead the group through an hour-long tour of the Balloon Museum. Must be a trained and experienced museum docent. One hour walking required throughout the inside of the museum.

FOUNDATION DINING EVENT GREETER: This volunteer will welcome guests, give directions, answer questions and check-in ticketed guests. They will also help with tidying up during and after events. Continuous walking required around the inside of the museum lobby and Foundation Event ticket booth. 

FOUNDATION DINING EVENT DOCENT: A fantastic job for a people person, this position requires one-on-one storytelling about balloons, the museum and Albuquerque. Volunteer will roam around foundation dining events, answering questions and telling interesting facts to guests, as well as help tidy up during and after events. Must be a trained and experienced museum docent. Continuous walking required throughout the inside of the museum lobby and outdoor patio. 

MUSEUM SHOPPE ASSISTANT: Volunteer will assist in the busy Museum Shoppe by bagging items, stocking, and cleaning. Volunteer will also observe doors and interact enthusiastically with customers, by welcoming them, visiting with them, and answering their questions. Continuous standing and walking, as well as occasional bending and lifting required inside the museum shoppe.

COURTESY SHUTTLE DRIVER: Volunteer will receive training on safety procedures for driving, loading, and unloading passengers. Volunteer will also learn specific shuttle routes to be used by the open-air golf cart shuttles during Foundation events. Specific training required for this position. Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid New Mexico driver's license. Drivers are not permitted to accept gratuities. Continuous driving is required outdoors.

  • Search for Balloon Museum Fiesta volunteer opportunities
  • Commit to work at least three (3) shifts during Balloon Fiesta.
  • Sign up for positions and shifts you want
  • For all volunteers, pass a background check. This process will be initiated by the museum when you register to volunteer with us.
  • Sign up for and complete a volunteer orientation at the Balloon Museum prior to Balloon Fiesta. Multiple dates will be offered to those who register. All volunteers must attend at least one of these sessions. All sessions take place at the Balloon Museum.
