At the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum, we’re bringing this magic closer to home with the creation of a one-of-a-kind outdoor playscape exhibit. This interactive space will inspire children and families to embrace the wonder of flight, learn about the science and artistry of ballooning, and explore the adventure that comes with being lighter than air.

• Step into Adventure: Kids can climb into a model hot air balloon, simulate a flight, or navigate through balloon-themed mazes that teach navigation skills.
• Ignite Curiosity: Families can learn about the science of buoyancy, weather, and aviation through hands-on activities, blending play and education.
• Celebrate History: The exhibit will honor the pioneers of ballooning and airship innovation, showcasing the courage and creativity that brought flight to life.

The Balloon Museum, which opened its doors in 2005, originally envisioned an outdoor exhibit as part of its conceptual design. Now, as the museum approaches its 20th anniversary, the Flight of Imagination Outdoor Exhibit is set to become a reality. 

Located along the North Diversion Channel and offering stunning views of Balloon Fiesta Park and the future New Mexico United Stadium, the new outdoor exhibit promises to enhance the visitor experience like never before. The Outdoor Playscape will feature an elevated walkway with engaging educational nodes centered around hot air and gas ballooning. Guests will have the unique opportunity to wander through a half-inflated hot air balloon, test their skills at competitive ballooning, and step inside the capsule of a stratospheric gas balloon. 

With a dedicated performance space, comfortable seating, and interactive play areas, the immersive space will invite guests of all ages to lose track of time while letting their imaginations soar.

Fundraising is underway for this project with an anchoring donation of $250,000 from the estate of Jim and Marlene Winker, presented by Ted and Greg Winker.
