Youth Art Museum Crawl

The work of Alvarado Elementary School students in collaboration with artist Eliza Naranjo Morse (Kha’p’o Owingeh) is on display throughout the Museum. Be sure to look in every corner to find each and every little bug, and check out Naranjo Morse’s work on view in “Vivarium” in Gallery 7.

Art Activity: Little Magical Pouches

Many of the creatures that artist Eliza Naranjo Morse illustrates are carrying curious packs and pouches as they journey through the universe. On this Third Thursday celebrate her work by making little magical bags from fabric, yarn, embroidery floss, sticks, and other found objects.

Conversation: Movement, Memory, Land

Join “Broken Boxes” artists Joseph M. Pierce, Christine Howard Sandoval, and exhibition co-curator Josie Lopez talk about migration, memory and land, and how their respective practices reflect and uncover what it means to belong.

Joseph M. Pierce, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, focuses on kinship, gender, and race in Latin America in his work. An author and co-curator of the performance series “Knowledge of Wounds,” Pierce has published extensively on queer and Indigenous studies. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature at Stony Brook University.

Christine Howard Sandoval, a member of the Chalon Nation, is an interdisciplinary artist exploring themes of representation and habitation in performance, video, and sculpture. Her place-based installations explore the limits of materials as they engage with land, water, and culture. She currently lives in the unceded territories of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam First Nations and is an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Praxis at Emily Carr University (Vancouver, BC)

In this 30-minute group activity, explore the art of Patrick McGrath Muñiz led by legendary museum guide David Bower.
