Description
Route 66 without neon is like a banana cream pie without the bananas. Albuquerque's Central Avenue had at least 100 motels in the late 1950s, each with a glorious neon sign. Central Avenue was promoted as the most brightly lit Main Street in America, a "galaxy of neon." While many neon signs are gone, preservationists are working to save and restore vintage neon. In this presentation by Johnnie Meier, owner of the Classical Gas Museum, learn how neon signs work, how these signs are preserved, and how preservation stimulates economic development on Route 66.
